Spring has definitely sprung!!!!! With that comes SPRING CLEANING! Here are the Top 10 Spring Cleaning Tips For Your Dog!

Spring Cleaning is not only important for humans but in their own way dog’s need to spring clean too!

  1. Check toy box- This can be a very dirty place that doesn’t get washed out often enough. Go through all the toys and see which ones haven’t been used in the last 6 months. If they are still in good shape donate them to your local shelter!
  2. Get rid of old treats- Treats much like human treats have a shelf life, especially if they are open. Go through your dog’s treats and get rid of ones that may be old or have been left open for a while
  3. Give your dog a physical- Give your dog a one over to ensure he or she is in good health, check for bumps or bites and anything abnormal (this should be done all the time) You may even want to have this done by your vet!
  4. Scrub down leashes and clothing- Leashes, collars and clothing are definitely not washed enough and can carry bacteria and funky smells, wash or even replace those leashes and collars.
  5. Give your pets favourite spots a scrub down- If your dog has a spot they always lay or relax in, make you are scrubbing that down so it’s always clean for your pet and maybe for you (ha your couch your bed etc.)
  6. Ensure brushing on a regular basis- remembering that this time of year many dogs start shedding, to help keep your pet comfy and your house clean ensuring you are combing or brushing your dog will help keep them comfy and your house cleaner!
  7. Get your tick and flea meds ready (it’s that time of year)- These should be done according to what your vet has prescribed. Spring is the time of year when more dogs are outside and more prone to ticks’ fleas etc. Make sure you are ready for those pesky buggers!
  8. Wash your dog bed or replace it- If you have a bed that you can remove the cover, you should be washing this on a regular basis, if you can’t wash the cover consider replacing the bed each spring as it can collect dirt and even mold/mildew if your dog lays on it when he’s wet.
  9. Clean out the food container- if you store your dog’s food in a container it is important to give that container a good scrubbing every few months as it can impact the taste of your dog’s food if has traces of old food or treats in it!
  10. Get the garden hose set up – What dog doesn’t get muddy time of year? Have a spot to rinse off your dog before they come in. This will help keep your house clean after a fun spring day at the park!
